In our world that these students’ families are hiding from, these calendars serve as a daily reminder of the strength and the love they are trying to show in showing up at school and caring about their families.

The preteens that submitted their butterflies have witnessed at least one or more of their own friends, parents, loved ones, and other family members taken away into the detention centers and deported. Only a handful have returned. These students are American citizens in mixed status homes, many of them with family members with open asylum cases and other work visas and green cards. Still, they are taken away. Their parents call us wanting to work, but they do not know how to do so safely; the kids are keenly aware of the rent their parents need and they are too young to get jobs.

I believe these kids deserve to be kids, which is why I’m asking for donations as you purchase this calendar. All funds received will go directly to assisting the most fearfully vulnerable (yet the greatest parents through all of this) in keep their housing through this crisis.
